Overview

Osteoarthritis is inflammation of joints due to age related degeration in bones. Womens, elderly and obese people are more likely to have osteoarthritis. The bone alterations of the joints, the breakdown of tendons and ligaments, the breakdown of cartilage (the tissue that cushions the ends of the bones between joints), and varying degrees of inflammation of the joint lining are its defining characteristics. The main signs and symptoms of the condition are joint abnormalities, stiffness, progressive discomfort in the hands, neck, lower back, knees, or hips. Osteoarthritis-related problems such as pain, decreased mobility, drug side effects, and other factors can result in health issues that are unrelated to the disease itself.
